Assessments involve approximately six
hours of face-to-face contact with the student, an interview with
the parents and a telephone consultation with the student’s
teacher. Once the information is gathered, the psychologist will
write a report and provide feedback to the parents or student if
over the age of eighteen.
Most employers have medical insurance plans that cover the services
of a registered psychologist and therefore may cover all or some
part of an assessment. |
| A psycho-educational assessment is a comprehensive
diagnostic assessment providing information on a student’s
learning strengths and needs. Specifically, information is gathered
as to their intellectual and academic functioning. A detailed developmental
history is taken and information is gathered as to the student’s
personality, behaviour and learning style.
Once gathered, this information can lead to specific recommendations
that the school in general, or the teacher more specifically, may
implement. The findings may necessitate the diagnosis of a Learning
Disability, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or emotional
problems. When this is the case, recommendations are made to address
these difficulties.
